Kumasi: Prempeh I Airport Roundabout deteriorates, causing damages to vehicles

The Prempeh I Airport Roundabout, a critical transport hub in Greater Kumasi, Ashanti Region, has become a growing point of frustration for drivers and commuters.

The roundabout, which connects several major roads, is deteriorating rapidly, leading to worsening traffic congestion, vehicle damage, and increased safety hazards.

Drivers have raised concerns over the deteriorating state of the intersection, where large potholes and cracked surfaces have made navigation difficult and dangerous.

Although the roundabout was previously repaired following a Channel One News report, conditions have once again returned to disrepair.

Several drivers voiced their frustrations in interviews with Channel One News, criticizing both authorities and prominent local figures for neglecting road maintenance.

“Our main challenge is the potholes—you can see it for yourself,” said driver Godfred Appiah. “Traffic is too high, and this is now an international airport area. The government should do something about it so we can move freely.”

Another driver, Alhaji Osman, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the neglect despite the high-profile nature of the road. “All the leaders in this town pass through here, but they have all turned a blind eye to the situation. The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is one of the prominent people who use this stretch, but look at the road—it’s in a terrible state,” he said.

Adding to the concerns, Seidu Ibrahim, another driver, recounted a recent accident involving a tricycle and a truck, caused by navigating around potholes. “We’re pleading with the authorities to fix it,” he said, expressing the shared frustration of those who rely on the roundabout daily.

As drivers continue to voice these concerns, calls are growing for urgent intervention to improve safety and ease traffic flow at this key transport point.
