The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Akwasi Konadu has urged stakeholders to support efforts to protect the country’s wildlife resources.
Konadu said this at a dissemination workshop in Takoradi on Monday, October 28, on the Wildlife Resource Management Act, 2023, Act 1115 and the Proposed Legislative Instrument to support the Community Resource Management Areas Establishment and Operationalisation.

“It provides for a new management structure to give legal backing to the involvement of local communities in wildlife management through the creation of Community Resources Management Areas (CREMAs) and provide higher penalties and sanctions regime for wildlife offenses, which are deterrent enough to protect our wildlife resources.”
The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources appealed to the public and relevant stakeholders to assist in implementing regulations to protect Ghana’s wildlife.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to protecting Ghana’s wildlife and preserving its natural heritage.
“The Ministry acknowledges that, legislation alone is not enough to address the multifaceted challenges we face in the wildlife sector and hence today, we have invited all of you as our major partners and stakeholders – government agencies, traditional authorities, community leaders, civil society organisations, academia, Ghana Institute of Foresters and the private sector—to outdoor the Wildlife Resources Management Act, 2023 (Act 1115) here in Takoradi, the Western Region to seek your support in its implementation.”
“Your role as stakeholders is pivotal in ensuring the success of these legal frameworks. Let us seize this opportunity to renew our commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s wildlife and natural heritage. The task ahead of us is great, but with your support and dedication, I am confident that we can achieve our goals.”
The Deputy Lands Minster further expressed the ministry’s commitment to the effective implementation of the legislation.
“I can assure you that, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources is committed to the effective implementation of this important piece of legislation for the efficient and progressive preservation and management of the wildlife resources of our country.”
This Act provides a comprehensive legal framework for wildlife protection, the regulation of hunting practices, and the management of protected areas in our country.
