Life Is Tech Africa, an education technology company, has officially launched in Accra, Ghana, introducing an innovative approach to technology education for the continent’s youth.
A subsidiary of the highly successful Life Is Tech Japan, the company aims to equip young Africans with coding and programming skills to thrive in the digital economy. This initiative is a significant step toward bridging Africa’s digital skills gap and unlocking the potential of the continent’s youth.
At the launch event, Issah Gariba, Managing Director of Life Is Tech Africa, underscored the company’s mission:
“We embark on a mission to empower Africa’s youth with the skills of the future. Our continent is home to some of the world’s most vibrant and innovative minds, and we believe technology education is the key to unlocking their full potential.”
He further revealed that Life Is Tech Africa aims to create a community of young technologists who will drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and socio-economic growth on the continent.
A Revolutionary Approach to Tech Education
Life Is Tech Africa adopts a self-taught, game-based learning model. Through interactive modules, students learn coding and programming in a fun and engaging way. This approach, proven successful in Japan, fosters creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork by gamifying the learning process, making it feel more like an adventure than a traditional classroom.
The platform offers age-appropriate coding courses that progress with the learner’s skills. Beyond technical instruction, the program emphasizes real-world applications, encouraging students to innovate and use their new skills to solve problems in their communities.
Addressing Africa’s Digital Skills Gap
Africa’s youth population is rapidly growing, but many young people lack the digital skills needed to compete in today’s tech-driven world. Life Is Tech Africa aims to fill this gap with tailored courses for students from upper primary to senior high school and further to the tertiary level in Ghana. The curriculum includes hands-on tasks such as web design and app development, motivating students to apply their coding knowledge to practical projects.
In addition to coding, the platform integrates English language instruction, recognizing the importance of English in global tech industries. This dual focus on ICT and language proficiency ensures students are well-prepared for international opportunities.
In the lead-up to its official launch, Life Is Tech Africa has already started making an impact in Ghana. As far back as 2019, the company began organizing workshops in collaboration with local institutions like the University of Ghana, Soronko Academy, and various international schools. These workshops gave both students and teachers a chance to experience Life Is Tech’s lessons firsthand and provide feedback for improvement.
Endorsements from Key Leaders
Life Is Tech Africa has gained support from prominent figures, including the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana and President Nana Akufo-Addo, who met with the company’s leadership during official visits to Japan. These endorsements highlight the growing recognition of coding education’s role in shaping Africa’s tech future.
With headquarters in Accra, Life Is Tech Africa has set an ambitious goal to train over five million students across the continent within the next five years. The company aims to create a new generation of African tech leaders who will drive innovation and economic growth both locally and globally.
As the company launches in Ghana and expands across the continent, it is seeking partnerships with schools, NGOs, and governments to further its mission. Life Is Tech Africa believes that by working together with educators, parents, and tech enthusiasts, it can make coding a core part of the African education system and unlock the full potential of Africa’s youth. Lifeistech is certified corporation in the USA.
