Amidst growing concerns over food security, George Kwabena Obeng Takyi, the Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta and a member of the Food, Agricultural, and Cocoa Affairs Committee, has acknowledged the challenges hindering the passage of the Grains Development Authority Bill into law.
In an interview with Channel One News during a stakeholders’ consultative meeting on the Grains Development Authority (Amendment) Bill, organized by Parliamentary Network Africa in Kumasi, the Manso Nkwanta MP pointed out several issues within the bill that are primary obstacles to advancing the legislation.
The bill aims to strengthen the country’s grain production and storage infrastructure.
“The moment anything is calling for an amendment, it means there’s an ill to be cured. So the people in there have seen the ill. They sent it to Parliament, and Parliament has referred it to the agricultural committee.
“They are going to consider all these ills that they’re commenting on for it to be amended and see how best it suits today’s processes, occasions and the aspirations of the people.
“It’s very crucial that the ills that are in there for corrections we take it through and see as a committee, we make sure what’s good we put it in there to guide the people. And ensure that our agricultural sector develops as we want.”
