The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly condemned an alleged attack on a deaf supporter in the Western North Region.

A disturbing video surfaced on social media showing the assault of the NDC supporter by individuals allegedly backed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Asawinso A, a community in the Bibiani municipal area.

The NDC issued a statement on Monday, October 7, 2024, denouncing the attack, labelling it a blatant violation of the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities.

The National Democratic Congress alleges that Samson Adjei, also known as Kofi Kaah, was attacked while riding his motorbike past a New Patriotic Party campaign float.

According to the NDC, the NPP campaigners harassed Kofi Kaah and snatched plantains from the bunch he was carrying on his motorbike.

The party’s Disability Desk urged security agencies to take swift action and ensure the perpetrators face the full force of the law.

“We entreat the police and other security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators of this evil act are brought to book. We also appeal to institutions tasked to ensure that peace prevails before, during and after elections to follow up on this incident and make sure that justice is upheld.

“In this respect, we call on the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice and the Peace Council to follow closely on this case to help secure a just outcome.”

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) reaffirms its unwavering commitment to championing the rights and inclusivity of persons with disabilities, ensuring their dignity and well-being are safeguarded.
