James Kofi Annan, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Effutu, has expressed strong confidence in his ability to unseat the incumbent Member of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
Annan criticised Afenyo-Markin’s candidacy, labelling him a weak contender who does not play fairly.
In an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Wednesday, he stated “Afenyo-Markin is not a strong candidate; notwithstanding, he is a very weak candidate. He doesn’t play it fairly.”
“Recently, you heard Cynthia Morrison accusing him of influencing voters from the Agona West constituency, and by Cynthia Morrison’s own analysis, what we deduce from it is that Agona West alone, there were about 7,000 people imported from that constituency into Effutu constituency.”
Annan further alleged that the importation of voters has significantly impacted election outcomes in the Central Region.
“I would say that most of the NPP candidates who lost in the Central Region lost because of this importation of voters from their constituencies into our constituency, and we estimate that a minimum of 20,000 people have been imported from these constituencies into our constituency.
“So when you look at our voters register it is not a true reflection of the people in the constituency,” he added.
