Tax analyst Francis Timore Boi is advocating for more constructive engagement between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the business community to address rising concerns over tax collection practices.
Businesses have recently voiced frustration with GRA’s approaches, with former Ghana Association of Banks President Alhassan Andani notably comparing the Authority’s methods to those of a “terrorist organization.”
In an interview with Citi Business News, Francis Timore Boi emphasized the need for GRA enforcement officers to adopt a more customer-centric approach. He believes that proactive, transparent communication with businesses could not only ease tensions but also foster a more cooperative environment that encourages compliance.
“For me these instances indicate that , the stakeholders out there, see GRA’s enforcement matters as creating tension between the GRA and the various stakeholders and we need a balance such that businesses can still operate whiles the GRA also goes to them to collect their revenue,” he said.
“In as much as we know that sometimes there will be deficit and therefore there will be pressure on the GRA to collect more, we need to do this in a more friendly manner, so my advice to the GRA is that, they should adopt more customer centric approach, there should be regular engagement with the business communities especially those that are organized like GUTA and the foreign business chambers,” he added.
