The flag bearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has promised to reduce the cost of data and mobile phones under his leadership.
This according to him is to make the device easily accessible to young people.
Campaigning in the Nhyiaeso constituency, in the Ashanti region of Ghana, Dr Bawumia explained that his government would waive the import duty on mobile phones.
As part of the government’s broader strategy to position the country as a leading digital hub in Africa in the next NPP administration, Bawumia has pledged to increase investment in the telecommunications industry to make data more affordable.
“I know that everyone likes mobile phones so, I am going to decrease the prices of mobile phones, there will be no duties on mobile phones imports.
“We are eliminating the import duties on mobile phones so that mobile phones will be affordable and also we are going to bring down the cost of data for our youth,” he said.
