The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised serious concerns over the final voter register presented by the Electoral Commission (EC) for the upcoming elections.
While EC Chairperson Jean Mensa affirmed that the final voter register was fully prepared to ensure a credible election process on December 7, 2024, the NDC remains sceptical.
Addressing party representatives in Accra on Wednesday, Mensa expressed satisfaction that all outstanding issues with the register had been resolved.
However, speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Dr Rashid Tanko Computer, Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC reiterated the party’s objections, highlighting specific areas of the register that remain problematic.
He highlighted that the EC presented a register without accompanying statistics, which he deemed essential for transparency and accountability.
“They brought the register, and they themselves didn’t even know the statistics of the register. We raised objections to that… They don’t have it. The proper thing is that they should provide you with statistics.”
Dr Tanko further noted that the EC officials had retreated to their offices to work on the document, indicating a lack of preparedness.
“As of now, they have all run to their offices working on the document. If they had it by now, they would have pulled it out,” he added.
