President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commended the successful completion of the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange, highlighting it as a key achievement of his administration’s drive to modernise infrastructure and boost development in Ghana.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Friday, November 29, 2024, the President noted that the project represents a critical step in addressing Accra’s persistent traffic congestion while fostering economic growth.
He emphasised the interchange’s role in enhancing urban mobility and facilitating efficient transport along one of the capital city’s busiest routes.
President Akufo-Addo described the interchange as a cornerstone of his government’s transformative agenda, stressing that such initiatives align with a broader vision to modernize infrastructure nationwide. He pointed to ongoing and planned projects across the country aimed at improving transportation networks and urban development.
The President also called on residents to support the maintenance and preservation of the infrastructure, ensuring its benefits are long-lasting and contribute to sustainable urban progress.
“I am very happy to be here this afternoon to commission Phase II of the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange. This remarkable project is further evidence of my government’s strong commitment to transformative development. Development that enhances mobility and economic growth and improves the quality of life for all Ghanaians.
“With the inception of this project, my vision is clear to confront the persistent traffic congestion which has long impeded movement and economic activity in this crucial area of Accra.”
President Akufo-Addo also commended the collaboration between various stakeholders, including government agencies, contractors, and the local community, in bringing the project to fruition.
On his part, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, used the occasion to issue a stern warning against unauthorised activities at the interchange.
He reiterated that the city’s authorities would not tolerate the erection of kiosks, mechanic shops, or any other unauthorised structures in the area, which could undermine the beauty and functionality of the project.
