Manchester United has officially confirmed the appointment of Ruben Amorim as their new manager.
In a statement released on Friday, the club announced that Amorim will continue in his role with Sporting Lisbon until November 11. This means that the 39-year-old will oversee his first match in charge during a Premier League away game against Ipswich Town.
Amorim has signed a contract that extends until June 2027, with the option for an additional year.
To facilitate his early release from his 30-day notice period, United has paid Sporting Lisbon an additional €1 million (£840,000) on top of his €10 million (£8.4 million) exit clause.
He will take over from Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed on Monday, while Ruud van Nistelrooy will serve as interim manager until Amorim officially joins the club.
United’s next match is a league fixture at home in Chelsea this Sunday.
