The founder of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, has urged parliamentarians to focus on strengthening and building the capacity of Parliament rather than seeking intervention or approval from the Executive or Judiciary.
His remarks were in response to recent developments in Parliament. Dr. Paa Kwesi Ndom made these comments during a visit to the Bimbilla constituency on Monday, November 18, where he campaigned for the party’s parliamentary candidate.
“With what is happening in Parliament, it is important for parliamentarians, the legislature, to be supportive of their own Chamber and not to run to the executive, not to run to the judiciary to seek solutions. They must find solutions within Parliament itself. Otherwise, you weaken it.
“When people complain that the executive, the president, has been borrowing too much, who approves all those loans? It is Parliament. Who approves all the initiatives? It is Parliament. It is always Parliament. But we need Parliamentarians to be strong. That is why we, in the PPP, advocate for the separation of Parliament from the executive,” he said.
