The Africa Center for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA) has called on senior Members of Parliament to resolve the ongoing impasse in the House before the conclusion of the current session of the 8th Parliament.
Dr. Rasheed Draman, Executive Director of ACEPA, emphasized the need for MPs to align their actions with the court’s ruling on the matter.
This appeal comes in response to a statement by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, who asserted that the House could not reconvene before the December elections.
The Speaker’s position follows calls from the Majority Caucus for an emergency recall to address urgent government business.
Speaking to Citi News, Dr. Draman highlighted the importance of ensuring that the 8th Parliament concludes on a constructive note, avoiding the chaos that marred its beginning.
“Even if we are left with just a week to the end of the life of this Parliament, I think we need some of our elders to get involved and let this Parliament end on a peaceful note so that it doesn’t end on the chaotic note that it started with.
“So there is a lot of work that needs to be done, and I hope that our elders will start lacing their boots and get the key stakeholders together to resolve the impasse.”
