Grammy Academy Member C-Real believes Ghanaian artistes are hindering their Grammy potential by neglecting their unique cultural identity.

Despite multiple nominations by artists like reggae legend Rocky Dawuni, no Ghanaian artist has yet claimed a Grammy Award.

In an appearance on Channel One TV‘s entertainment talk show, The Chat, C-Real explained: “Betrix touched on something that I am also very passionate about – which is identity … The last time we had an authentic music genre was Highlife, then after Highlife we had Hiplife, and instead of institutionalizing Hiplife to become a genre for Ghana, we picket and fought about who did what till it was unattractive “

“I love pop music – Beyonce’ is the biggest Pop star in the World but I don’t know who owns it and I don’t care.. So we’re always grasping at straws with what is globally relevant without investing in what is exclusively Ghanaian”. He added

Known in real life as Cyril-Alex Gockel, C-Real, stressed the need to embrace Ghanaian culture and sound to stand out in the global music scene.

Besides being a Grammy Academy Member, C-Real is a Marketing Consultant and Media Personality at 3Music TV.
