Two people have been killed in Bawku following an attack by unidentified gunmen at two separate locations.
One of the victims, Moro Aziz, a mentally deranged man from Gozesi, a suburb of Bawku, wandered towards the Bawku cemetery where he was killed.
The second victim, identified as Kasim, was reportedly killed in Daduri, another suburb of Bawku while attempting to navigate to a different location.
These deaths bring the total number of fatalities in the area to 35 since the resurgence of the conflict in late October 2024.
Despite the imposition of a dawn-to-dusk curfew in the area, the situation remains volatile. The ethnic clashes, which initially erupted in November 2021 over the installation of a rival chief, continued throughout 2023 before subsiding.
However, on October 25, 2024, the conflict reignited with the return of the rival chief, Alhaji Seidu Abagre, who was installed by Nayir.
