Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has launched a cutting-edge Digital Border Control System and e-gates at Kotoka International Airport (KIA), Accra.

The initiative launched on Tuesday, December 3, is a landmark in Ghana’s efforts to modernize border management with a system designed, developed, and owned by Ghanaians.

The system integrates artificial intelligence, biometrics, and real-time data processing, streamlining airport procedures.

Holders of the Ghanacard can now use e-gates for seamless entry without manual immigration checks. The system also accommodates members of the diaspora and international visitors through pre-registration of their biometric and travel information.

Dr. Bawumia underscored Ghana’s innovation in combining biometric verification and Digital Travel Credentials (DTCs) on a single platform. This positions the nation as a pioneer in intelligent border control, surpassing global standards.

The Vice President praised the achievement, highlighting it as a testament to local expertise.

“I am excited that our country has, once again, demonstrated that it is possible to attain global standards through systems designed and built by Ghanaians.”

This move aligns Ghana with evolving global travel technologies and strengthens its border security while enhancing travel efficiency.
