BoG governor, two deputies receive national honours

The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison and his two deputies, Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari, first deputy Governor and Mrs Elsie Addo Awadzi the second deputy Governor were among award winners at the National Honours ceremony on Monday

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo honoured the trio for their outstanding contributions to Ghana’s financial and public services sector.

Governor Ernest Addison received an Order of the Star of Ghana – Member Award for Financial and Public Service while Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari and Mrs. Elsie Awadzi received a Grand Medal each for Financial and Public Service

The various citations read:

“Your expertise and leadership have elevated Ghana’s profile in global financial circles. You have represented Ghana on numerous platforms, contributing to discussions on sustainable development, debt management, and Africa’s integration into the global economy.
Your exemplary leadership at the Bank of Ghana and your enduring dedication to economic development have left an indelible legacy. Your work continues to inspire confidence in Ghana’s economic future, fostering stability, growth, and opportunity for generations to come.

DR. MAXWELL OPOKU-AFARI

You have been instrumental in overseeing the implementation of policies that have strengthened the Ghanaian banking sector, enhanced regulatory frameworks and fostered financial inclusion. Under your stewardship, the Bank of Ghana has made significant strides in improving the country’s inflation control measures among others.

You have also represented Ghana with distinction on international stage, collaborating with global financial institutions and contributing to key discussions on monetary policy, financial stability and economic development in Africa.
