Chaos erupted at the Akurem Junior High School polling station in the Asawase constituency when members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) objected to the presence of Manaf Ibrahim, the Parliamentary Candidate for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), as he joined the queue to cast his vote.
The commotion unfolded after Manaf Ibrahim declined preferential treatment that would have allowed him to bypass the queue upon his arrival.
Manaf Ibrahim arrived at the polling station in the early hours of the voting day. In accordance with electoral guidelines, candidates are often allowed expedited access to cast their votes and then proceed with monitoring other polling stations.
However, in an unusual move, Manaf Ibrahim chose to wait in line with other voters, citing his desire to experience the process as an ordinary citizen and connect with his constituents on a personal level.
