On December 4, a Facebook user shared an image of renowned artiste Stonebwoy clothed in a red, white and green polo short with the symbol of the National Democratic Congress on the upper left part of the shirt.
The post has since amassed over 11 thousand likes, 650 comments and 213 shares. Due to the post, users have welcomed the idea of the artiste affiliating with the party.
Users commented: “Thank you stonebwoy 3y3 zu all the way” and “Thank you Stonebwoy. Everywhere in Ghana is green, we all know Mahama is coming back.” However, skepticism arose regarding the authenticity of the image, leading some users to question whether it had been altered. In response to this controversy, CitiVerify decided to verify if the image is indeed real or just an edited image.
Verification
CitiVerify conducted a Google reverse image search, which revealed that the image had circulated previously. The earliest known instance of the image appeared on February 2, 2022, shared on a fan page dedicated to Stonebwoy.
Other pages also reposted the image throughout 2022. Notably, there has been no official statement from Stonebwoy’s management regarding any political endorsement or support for the NDC, nor have any credible media outlets reported such news.
Conclusion
The image of music artiste, Stonebwoy in an NDC short has been doctored and is not original.
