The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has clarified that members who held official positions before defecting to Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change will not be reinstated upon their return to the party.
He emphasised that the NPP’s principles and values remain firm and uncompromising.
This statement follows reports of about 500 members of the Movement for Change defecting back to the NPP.
Speaking in an interview with Citi News, Ahiagbah reaffirmed that while the party welcomes returning members with open arms, reinstating them to their previous positions is not an option.
“I am not sure about accepting people back into what office they held before their defection or their choice to go to work with the Movement for Change.
“What I know for sure is that those allegiances that people hold to the New Patriotic Party are principled, and they cannot find that principle anywhere operative. And so coming home, I think that it was something that we knew would happen.
“The balance of the people who have come back is just a symbol of the fact that the party is strong, the party is resilient. But in terms of membership, they would be in good standing, but except for being in office and then having to return to those offices, I am not too sure.”
