Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has cautioned the youth of the constituency against engaging in violent activities that sought to mar the election process.
The Effutu legislator instead urged party supporters to engage in issues-based campaigns aiming at promoting the achievements of their political parties adding that the full arm of the law will deal with persons caught engaging in violent acts.
“Instead of engaging in violence on election day supporters must engage in issue-based campaigns aimed at promoting the achievement of the political parties they belong to. The police from my understanding will not spare anybody found engaging in violence.
“As Political elites, it is interesting to know that we tolerate each other in Parliament and so I don’t see why supporters must engage in violence just to support one candidate. If you don’t agree with another person from another party it doesn’t mean he is your enemy and you must kill each other,” Afenyo Markin told constituents in Effutu.
“Democracy is about free expression. This is not the time to discriminate irrespective of your ethnic, religious and other backgrounds. If you go out and engage in violence the party will disown you” the MP said.
The Member of Parliament who was addressing educational workers at the annual teachers’ awards in the constituency urged teachers of the constituency to sensitize students against allowing themselves to be used by politicians for their selfish interest.
“As Teachers, you command a lot of respect from the community and so I charge you to use your office to educate your students against violence. I also urge the traditional leaders, clergy, and those that matter to all help preach peace,” the MP said.
