The Central Regional Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Sackey, has expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the December 7 elections, confidently predicting that the NPP will secure at least 15 parliamentary seats in the Central Region.
Speaking on the region’s political dynamics, Sackey highlighted the strides made by the NPP over the past eight years to consolidate its influence.
The Central Region, often described as a swing region due to its unpredictable voting patterns, is seen as a critical battleground for both the NPP and its main rival, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Despite the prominence of Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the NDC’s running mate and a native of the region, Sackey is confident that the NPP will prevail in the majority of the 23 constituencies.
He emphasized the party’s efforts in improving livelihoods and fulfilling campaign promises as a basis for this confidence.
“If you look at her impact in the 2020 election, her impact was very negligible because when it comes to the presidential, that is when her impact was supposed to be felt. In the presidential, the NPP won in 19 constituencies and they won in only four of the constituencies. Even in her own constituency, the NPP appreciated the presidential votes.
“So, for the choice of Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, it is not a problem for the NPP at all. The party is working around the clock. We knew what we did in 2016 to give us the vote and we are on the field winning the majority vote in the 2024 election.
“In fact, all polls that have come so far favour the NPP. The people who voted for the NDC MPs to go to parliament have regretted it because these MPS went to parliament and did nothing in their constituencies. So, the people are now going to vote against them.
“…So, now they have seen the light and they are going to vote for the NPP. As I said, everything points to the fact that come December 7, the NPP is not winning less than 15 seats in the region.”
