The Deputy Head of Research at the Electoral Commission (EC), Fred Tetteh, has confirmed that indelible ink will be used during the upcoming December elections to enhance the integrity of the voting process.
His comments follow the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) dissatisfaction with the conduct of certain electoral officers, alleging the use of easily cleanable indelible ink during the exercise.
Speaking in an interview with Bernard Avle on the Citi Breakfast Show, Mr. Tetteh advised voters to verify the validation of their ballot papers before casting their votes. He emphasized that this step is crucial to ensure their votes are properly accounted for.
He also highlighted the importance of hygiene during the process, urging voters to ensure that the tissues provided for cleaning their fingers are sanitized to maintain cleanliness at polling stations.
The EC’s measures aim to bolster voter confidence and ensure a transparent and credible election.
“We’re using the indelible ink I must emphasise, that every voter will put his or her little finger in the indelible ink. Before the presidential ballot is issued to you, the ballot paper issuer must make sure, and you also have to make sure that the ballot paper is validated at the top right or left corner at the back of the paper before it is issued to you.
“I must also add that because you dipped your hand in the indelible ink, make sure the tissue provided is cleaned well before you touch the ballot paper. So that you don’t stain the ballot.”
We won’t countenance cleanable indelible ink usage on Dec. 7 – NDC to EC
