The incumbent Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has expressed strong confidence in retaining his seat in the 2024 elections.

Speaking to Channel One News’ Akwasi Agyei Annim, Mercer addressed the ongoing electoral process and shared his expectations for the outcome.

“There’s been a lot of noise in Sekondi, but the substance will prevail, and the good people of this country will decide in favour of Dr. Bawumia, and the good people of Sekondi will decide in my favour and we will win the elections,” Mercer stated.

He emphasised his faith in God’s decision, trusting that the work done by his team would resonate with voters.

“I mean, I know that ultimately it is God’s decision, but I trust God that He knows our hearts, He knows the work that we’ve done, and He will allow the people to choose us to continue the work we are doing for their benefit.”

Mercer expressed confidence that the election results would be known by the end of the day, predicting a clear outcome in his favour.

“I am extremely confident that by close of the day—six or seven at the latest—we will know the outcome of the elections in Sekondi, and it will be my third term in Parliament by the grace of God come 7th January 2025,” he added.

He also highlighted his goal to improve on his previous election performances.

“I am looking to garner about 70%. I need to do better than 2020. I did better than 2016 in 2020, and I expect that I will do better in 2024 than in 2020,” Mercer said.
