Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing his fifth consecutive term as the Member of Parliament for Wa Central.

Representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Pelpuo’s victory in the 2024 general elections solidifies his legacy as one of the most enduring and influential political figures in the Upper West Region.

Pelpuo polled 38,579 votes, while his closest contender, Humu Awudu polled 30,724.

His triumph underscores the unwavering confidence the constituents of Wa Central have placed in his leadership and vision for development.

Pelpuo’s journey in Ghanaian politics began with his first victory in the 2008 general elections. Since then, he has consistently won the trust of his constituents, navigating the political landscape with resilience and dedication.

The 2024 parliamentary election in Wa Central was a highly contested race, drawing attention from political analysts and voters alike.

Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo faced three challengers, including Humu Awudu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), a candidate from the People’s National Convention (PNC), and an Independent Candidate.

His closest contender, Humu Awudu, ran a spirited campaign emphasising change and development. However, the NPP’s efforts fell short, as the constituency reaffirmed its loyalty to the NDC and Pelpuo’s leadership.

The PNC candidate and the Independent Candidate, while presenting alternative platforms, struggled to make an impact.
