Heavy security deployed as EC resumes re-collation of nine constituencies

Heavy security has been deployed at the Electoral Commission’s (EC) Regional Office at Ridge in Accra as the Commission resumes the re-collation of results for nine outstanding constituencies.

The exercise, scheduled to ensure accuracy and transparency in the final tally, comes amid heightened political tension and public interest. The exercise is ongoing without representatives of the NDC.

The High Court on December 20, ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-collate and announce the results for the Ablekuma North, Nsawam-Adoagyiri and other disputed constituencies, nullifying earlier announcements but the NDC applied to stay the High Court ruling.

The affected constituencies are located across key regions and have been the subject of disputes over alleged irregularities in the collation process during the general elections.

The affected constituencies include Nsawam Adoagyiri, Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, Techiman South, and Dome Kwabenya.

Security Measures

Armed police and military personnel have cordoned off the area to maintain order and ensure the safety of election officials, party representatives, and observers. Security checkpoints have been set up at entry points, and access to the collation centre is strictly limited to authorized personnel.

The heightened security measures reflect the sensitive nature of the exercise, as supporters of major political parties have been seen gathering nearby, awaiting updates.

The Electoral Commission, at a press conference on Thursday, December 20, ahead of the re-collation, assured the public of its commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process.
