The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) head office, located at Kanda in Accra, came under attack by a group of irate youth in the early hours of Monday, December 9.

This unexpected incident left the staff and authorities at NADMO grappling with the aftermath of property theft and operational disruption.

Eyewitness reports and initial investigations suggest that the attackers, described as an angry group of youth, stormed the premises and forcibly took control of the offices.

They reportedly locked staff out of the facility, vandalised several sections, and looted some properties.

Motivations behind the attack remain unclear, leaving the public and NADMO officials speculating about the cause of this brazen act.

Speaking on the incident, the Assistant Human Resources Manager for NADMO described the chaotic scene, stating that the attackers breached multiple offices and took away various items.

“When we came in, we realised that some of the offices had been broken into. The Finance Office was breached, and they went to the Municipal Finance Office, but we don’t know exactly what they picked from there.

“From there, they came to the Admin Office and took away some desktops and air conditioners,” the Assistant Human Resources Manager recounted.

In addition to the electronic equipment stolen from the offices, the attackers reportedly targeted the works department, where they forced workers to vacate the premises.

“Then they came to the works department and drove out the workers and they used their own locks to close the place. They picked a concrete mixture, wheelbarrows, four motorbikes and they were demanding the keys to the pick ups and we told them that we don’t know where they were,” the Assistant Human Resources Manager further recounted.
