The current Member of Parliament for Takoradi and the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, has successfully retained his seat after a highly contested election.
He received 16,413 votes, while his opponent from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Faidoo Frederick Faustinus, obtained 15,517 votes.
There were 290 rejected ballots, with a total of 32,220 votes cast and 31,930 valid votes. Darko-Mensah first assumed office in Parliament on January 7, 2009, representing the Takoradi constituency under the New Patriotic Party. He has continued to serve in Parliament, winning subsequent elections in 2012 and 2016.
In a separate election, Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Sekondi, was defeated in a closely contested election by Blay Nyameke Armah of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Egyapa Mercer, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 11,084 votes, representing 42.94% of the total valid votes, while Blay Nyameke Armah secured 14,558 votes, corresponding to 56.40%.
Out of the 25,813 votes cast, 171 ballots were rejected.
This marks a significant shift in the Sekondi parliamentary seat, as Egyapa Mercer had previously dominated in the 2016 elections.
