John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has raised fresh concerns about alleged actions by the Electoral Commission (EC), accusing the body of attempting to favour the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 7 elections.
“With less than 24 hours to go, it has become obvious that the Electoral Commission is determined to aid the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rig the elections.
“But they will fail because the people of Ghana are determined to vote for change and protect their ballots,” Mahama stated in a Facebook post on Friday, December 6.
He highlighted several cases of exposed validating stamps reported to the Commission since Thursday night.
Despite these reports, he said the EC has not issued a clear directive to stop their staff from disclosing the identities and details of the validating stamps ahead of the elections.
This exposure, according to Mahama, allows the party that has printed fake ballot papers to produce similar stamps to achieve a semblance of validity.
“Since Thursday night, the National Democratic Congress has reported several cases of exposed Validating Stamps to the Commission, yet they have refused to issue a clear and unambiguous directive to stop their staff from disclosing the identities and details of the validating stamps ahead of tomorrow’s general elections,” he stated.
Adding “I call on the National Peace Council, Religious and Traditional Leaders, Civil Society, the International Community, and the Election Observer Missions to call the Electoral Commission to order.”
