NDC accuses EC of attempting to rig Ablekuma North results; vows to resist any collusion

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ablekuma North Constituency has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of attempting to manipulate the 2024 parliamentary election results in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The NDC claims the EC introduced falsified pink sheets containing 490 votes as part of an alleged rigging effort.

The EC had earlier nullified the constituency’s initial results, citing irregularities, and subsequently ordered a re-collation of votes.

However, despite the re-collation, the results for Ablekuma North remain undeclared. The EC’s returning officer for the constituency stepped aside, citing the absence of a complete statement of polls.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, December 26, the NDC’s Director of Elections for Ablekuma North, Daniel Tornyigah, accused the EC of colluding to manipulate polling station figures. He alleged that returning officers were instructed to alter results and warned that the NDC would strongly resist any attempt to overturn the will of the people.

“As we speak, a staff from the EC, a lady’s voice to be precise, is calling some presiding officers who aided, or better still, who helped us in the election process during the December 7 elections and requesting figures for their respective polling stations.

“Now, in some cases, this woman gave out figures for them to record for use. We want to know if this is part of the electoral process 20 days after the elections.

“We want to bring this rather shameful development and chronology of events to the attention of all well-meaning Ghanaians and the good people of Ablekuma North that at this height of clear attempt to rob the NDC off the seat, we would resist any other outcome other than the true will of the people.”
