The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has promised Ghanaian youth interested in starting their own businesses a comprehensive policy to support them if he wins the 2024 elections.
Dubbed “Adwumawura,” the policy, according to John Mahama, will provide funding for 10,000 young entrepreneurs annually to establish businesses as part of a broader approach to addressing youth unemployment in the country.
Speaking to party supporters at Juaso in the Asante-Akim South Constituency during his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, Mr. Mahama said the NDC has the best policies to tackle the rising unemployment among the youth.
“We are going to resource 10,000 youth each year with start-up capital to establish any business of their choice, and we will not leave out young people in Asante-Akim South,” he told the huge crowd.
“Empowering young people to become entrepreneurs and contribute meaningfully to the economy is a key priority of the NDC,” he noted.
He criticized the current government, led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for causing severe hardship to Ghanaians.
Mr. Mahama said development is about improving the welfare of the people, and any government that fails to protect the livelihoods of its citizens after eight years has no justification to remain in office.
He, therefore, urged Ghanaians to make the right choice by voting out the NPP government to restore the country to a path of progress and prosperity.
“They told us they have arrested the dollar, locked it up and handed the key to the IGP, but today you need 17 Ghana Cedis for just one dollar,” he lamented.
He warned Ghanaians against repeating the mistake of trusting the same individuals who promised a vibrant economy but have instead overseen its decline.
He specifically appealed to voters in the Ashanti Region to demonstrate to the NPP that they can no longer be taken for granted, despite years of loyalty with little to show for it.
The NDC flagbearer argued that most development projects in the region were undertaken during NDC administrations, making a strong case for the party to be given another opportunity to continue its work.
Maame Sarfoah Appiah, the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the Asante-Akim South constituency, also addressed the gathering, stating that it was time for the people of Asante-Akim South to replace the incumbent MP, who, she claimed, had done little to improve their lives over the past 12 years.
She highlighted the NDC’s track record as a development-oriented and people-centered party, urging voters to support the party to reset the country for economic growth.
