North Tongu Member of Parliament (MP), Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has described the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) recent electoral victory as a “total decimation” and a “massacre” of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
President-elect, John Dramani Mahama secured a decisive victory with 6,328,397 votes representing 56.55% of the valid votes cast, defeating his primary rival, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 4,657,304 votes representing 41.61% in this year’s general elections, marking a significant comeback to the presidency after his previous term ended in 2017. The NDC also secured majority seats in parliament.
In an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Wednesday, Ablakwa highlighted the significance of this win, calling it the greatest political comeback in history.
“What has emerged is a total decimation, a tsunami, a massacre of the NPP. This will go down in history as the greatest political comeback by any politician and all credit must go to the Ghanaian people,” Ablakwa stated.
He attributed the NDC’s success to the people’s dissatisfaction with the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia presidency, which he described as arrogant and intransigent.
Ablakwa emphasised that the NPP’s administration had caused significant harm to livelihoods, the environment, and water bodies, prioritising their convenience and self-interest over the needs of the people.
“Going into the election, a slogan emerged that it is Ghana versus the NPP because we have an Akufo-Addo-Bawumia presidency which refused to listen. They were very arrogant, very intransigent.
“They destroyed so many livelihoods, and so many lives, destroyed our environment, destroyed our water bodies. It is always about their convenience, their self-interest,” he said.
