Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson for the John Dramani Mahama Transition Team, has announced that ten heads of state will attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Mr. Ofosu disclosed that the event will also feature two vice presidents, one speaker of parliament, two former presidents, and representatives from international organizations such as the Commonwealth and the African Development Bank.

The inauguration, set to take place at the Black Star Square, will include a parliamentary session, requiring the relocation of Parliament’s sitting to the venue for the swearing-in ceremony. Preparations are underway to ensure a secure and well-organized setting, with access to the parliamentary session restricted to invited guests.

Mr. Ofosu expressed confidence in the event’s arrangements, describing it as an opportunity to showcase Ghana’s commitment to democracy and peaceful transitions of power.

“Members of the public and all invited guests are reminded that they cannot and will not be allowed to enter the swearing-in area without presenting their invitation cards.”

Mr. Ofosu indicated that guests are expected to be seated by 08:30 hours, followed by Members of Parliament and other invited guests. He further stated that the Speaker would arrive to accompany the President-Elect and Vice President-Elect to the Chamber, where the proceedings are scheduled to begin at 11:00 hours.

He also mentioned that certain roads in Accra, including the 28th February Road from CEPS Headquarters to Castle Road Junction, Castle Road from AU Circle to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, and Starlet 91 Road, will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic and will be reopened following the event.

Additionally, traffic from the 28th February Road, originating from La, Labone, and Osu towards the Central Business District, will be redirected to the Salem Avenue Traffic Light at the Castle Traffic Light to connect with Oxford Street, as well as traffic from John Evans Atta Mills High Street heading towards Black Star Square.

“The following areas have been earmarked for car parking for the Ceremony: the back of the Independence Arch, Forecourt of the State House, Access Bank Car Park, Osu Cemetery Car Park, Ministries Areas, Ministry of Food and Agriculture Car Park, Marine Drive Football Park, and Efua Sutherland Car Park.

“No vehicle would be allowed to park at unauthorised places or allowed to drive through any of the roadblocks.”
