As Ghana’s 8th Parliament comes to a close, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has reflected on the challenges faced during this tumultuous period.

In a statement in parliament on Monday, January 6, 2025, Afenyo-Markin described the NDC Minority as a “tough, stubborn, difficult side” that made it nearly impossible to reach agreements.

“Mr Speaker, many did not understand why I was combative on a number of occasions. There were those who didn’t know how the heat was on me and were saying that ‘you are majority leader, reach out.'”

“Mr Speaker, the minority were such a tough, stubborn, difficult side. Mr Speaker, you could never have an agreement with them because they were smelling power and I understand, rightly so,” Afenyo-Markin stated.

He emphasised the difficulties in completing government business due to the lack of support from the Minority.

“The number of government business I would have loved to complete for political expediency and perhaps for purposes of principle, I did not get the support from the respected colleagues,” he added.
