The police has initiated an investigation into the killing of a former sub-chief at Kokoben new site in the Achiase Electoral Area of the Atwima Nwabiagya North District in the Ashanti Region.
The deceased, believed to be in his late 40s, was shot dead in front of his house around 10pm on January 15, 2025.
Reports indicate he was returning home after getting food from town when the attack occurred.
According to the Assembly Member for the area, Muniru Yahaya, the community has recently experienced a surge in theft and other criminal activities.
As a result, some traditional leaders, including the deceased, had resorted to firing warning shots before bedtime.
Yahaya noted that when gunshots were heard on the night of the incident, residents assumed it was part of the usual routine.
It was only the following morning that the lifeless body of the former sub-chief was discovered.
Muniru Yahaya told Citi News that the police have since visited the scene and the body deposited at the morgue.
Meanwhile, family and community members remain in shock and mourning over the tragic incident.
