The National Theatre in Accra played host to the maiden edition of the Senior High School (SHS) Cookout Competition, organized by Teens Africa Network as part of their Teens Affair project. The event, which brought together three finalist schools, aimed to empower students with culinary skills, entrepreneurship knowledge, and internship opportunities in the hospitality industry.
The Teens Affair project, launched this year, seeks to equip students with practical skills and knowledge to prepare them for various job markets. According to Naphtali Baah, the founder of Teens Africa Network, “Our goal is to bridge the gap between academia and industry by providing students with hands-on experience and mentorship.” He emphasized the importance of empowering the next generation with skills that will enable them to compete in the global market.
The SHS Cookout Competition was the culmination of a series of workshops and training sessions, where students learned about culinary arts, entrepreneurship, and teamwork. The three finalist schools – Achimota Senior High School, Adonten Senior High School, and Islamic Girls Senior High School – competed for the top prize, with Achimota SHS emerging as the winner.
The competition was fierce, with each school presenting delicious meals prepared from a mystery basket. The judges, comprised of renowned chefs and hospitality experts, were impressed by the creativity and skill displayed by the students.
The event was made possible through the support of sponsors and partners, including the Chefs Association of Ghana, who provided mentorship and guidance to the students. Other sponsors included [deedew spices].
In his closing remarks, the founder of Teens Africa Network expressed his gratitude to the sponsors, partners, and participants. “We are proud to have provided a platform for these talented students to showcase their skills. We look forward to continuing this initiative and empowering more young people in the future.”
The SHS Cookout Competition was a resounding success, demonstrating the potential of Ghana’s youth to excel in the culinary arts. As the Teens Affair project continues to grow, it is clear that it will have a lasting impact on the lives of many young people.
