ActionAid Ghana (AAG) has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on her historic inauguration as the first female Vice President of Ghana.
The swearing-in ceremony, held on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, saw Prof. Opoku-Agyemang assume her role alongside John Dramani Mahama, who was sworn in as President.
In a January 9 statement, AAG praised the historic feat as a defining moment in Ghana’s democratic journey in the Fourth Republic.
“This victory is a bold step forward for women’s representation in Ghana,” the statement noted. “As a gender-focused organization, we are immensely proud of this milestone, which aligns with our relentless pursuit of feminist-leadership principles and gender equality. Prof. Opoku-Agyeman’s election symbolizes progress for women and girls across the country.”
AAG also reaffirmed its commitment to advancing feminist leadership principles and promoting gender equality in Ghana.
The organisation highlighted the broader implications of Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s election, expressing confidence that her leadership would inspire a new generation of women and girls to actively participate in governance and decision-making.
“ActionAid Ghana would also like to use this opportunity to extend our heartfelt congratulations and well wishes to all newly elected female members of Parliament. Our sincere congratulations also go to the gallant female Parliamentary candidates who stood for the elections but couldn’t win.
“We commend Ghanaians for their belief in and better appreciation of what women in leadership can do for the overall development of the country,” AAG further congratulated all women who were victorious in the general elections.
