The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Augustus Nana Akwasi Andrews, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to appoint additional ministers from the Ashanti Region, citing its size and development needs as justification for greater representation in government.
Speaking to the media on January 16, during the first round of interviews for the region’s metropolitan, municipal, and district chief executive (MMDCE) positions, the chairman expressed his gratitude for the appointment of Dr. Frank Amoakohene as the Ashanti Regional Minister.
However, he stressed the importance of further ministerial appointments to accelerate development and bolster the party’s chances of retaining power in the next election.
“We thank His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for appointing Dr. Frank Amoakohene as the Regional Minister. The Ashanti Region is one of the regions that need more development, and John Mahama is aware of that. But like the character Oliver Twist, we are asking for more,” he stated.
“As the names of his appointees are being revealed, we are appealing to him to get us more ministers in the region because it is the biggest region with 47 constituencies. Getting us extra ministers will help us win the next election,” he added.
This appeal comes on the heels of President Mahama nominating ten candidates for the role of regional minister, with their appointments currently awaiting parliamentary approval.
These nominations form part of the President’s broader strategy to enhance the efficiency of his administration and address regional development challenges.
