The Minister-Designate for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has called for a comprehensive review of the District Assemblies Act to help revitalise the Centre for National Culture (CNC) across the country.
Speaking during her vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 22, Gomashie stressed that empowering the CNC through a revised legal framework would provide a vital platform for young talents to thrive while preserving Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
“The District Assemblies Act should be reviewed to revive the Centre for National Culture in all areas across the country. The district assemblies have the opportunity to develop their communities, and I will be happy to work with them,” she stated.
According to her, the CNC holds immense potential for nurturing creative talent, describing it as a “low-hanging fruit” that could transform the lives of young, talented Ghanaians while significantly contributing to national development.
She emphasised that amending the District Assemblies Act would give local governments a stronger mandate to invest in cultural institutions like the CNC, which she described as a cornerstone for decentralising cultural and creative arts development in Ghana.
“The Centre for National Culture is an area that has the potential to create opportunities for young people who are talented and creative to take advantage of,” Gomashie added, underscoring her vision to ensure the creative arts sector becomes a robust contributor to Ghana’s economy.
