Residents of Bimbilla in the Northern Region are finally experiencing relief as fuel stations in the area have resumed operations after over a week of severe fuel shortages.
The disruption had caused significant challenges, affecting daily life and economic activities in the Nanumba area and surrounding communities.
On Friday, January 10, 2025, the National Petroleum Authority assured the public that fuel supplies would be restored soon and urged residents not to panic. By Saturday, January 11, two fuel stations in Bimbilla had reopened, bringing much-needed relief to the community.
Speaking to Channel One News, some residents expressed their gratitude and shared the impact of the shortage.
“For two weeks now, there has not been fuel in Bimbilla, and it has stalled our progress, especially financial activities in the Nanumba area and its environs. We couldn’t even determine the cause of the shortage. Now, with fuel back, things have returned to normal. We appeal to stakeholders to ensure a consistent supply because fuel is crucial for our livelihoods, especially for farmers and vehicle riders,” one resident said.
Another resident added, “We are very, very happy to have fuel back. The steady movement of motors and vehicles has resumed, and it’s a relief for the entire community.”
Despite the improvement in Bimbilla, neighboring communities continue to struggle with fuel shortages. Many residents from these areas travel long distances to Bimbilla to purchase fuel in containers, which puts additional strain on local supplies.
Concerns are also mounting as schools reopen. Teachers commuting to schools in outlying communities may face significant challenges if the fuel supply remains inconsistent.
Residents and stakeholders are calling for a sustainable solution to prevent future disruptions and ensure uninterrupted fuel availability in the region.
