Fuel prices have seen a marginal increase in the first pricing window of January 2025, causing concerns among consumers and stakeholders.
State-owned oil marketing company GOIL, adjusted its prices upwards, effective January 2, 2025.
Petrol, which was sold at GHȼ14.75 per litre in the second pricing window of December 2024, is now selling at GHȼ14.99 per litre. Diesel has also seen an increment, moving from GHȼ15.45 per litre to GHȼ15.60 per litre.
Total Energies has adjusted its fuel prices. Petrol, which was sold at GHȼ15.30 per litre on December 20, 2024, is now priced at GHȼ15.50 per litre.
Similarly, the price of diesel has increased from GHȼ15.80 per litre to GHȼ15.99 per litre.
Other oil marketing companies, including Star Oil and Shell, have maintained their prices from the second pricing window of December 2024.
Star Oil continues to sell petrol at GHȼ14.75 per litre and diesel at GHȼ14.99 per litre.
Meanwhile, prices remain at GHȼ15.30 per litre for petrol and GHȼ15.66 per litre for diesel at Shell.
The adjustments come at a time when Ghanaians are grappling with the economic pressures associated with fuel price hikes.
This is because fuel price increments tend to have a rippling effect on the economy, influencing transportation costs, food prices, and overall inflation.
The issue of fuel pricing is expected to be a significant focus of the John Mahama-led administration which officially takes office today.
Stakeholders in energy sector have in the past called on the government to prioritize measures to stabilize fuel prices, given their widespread impact on various sectors of the economy.
