Knowledge Management, Digitalization and Learning Cluster Lead Specialist for FARA, Benjamin Abugri has been adjudged the Best KM Specialist for 2024.

Mr Abugri becomes the first Ghanaian, second African and youngest recipient of the award.

He noted that “this recognition is not just a personal achievement but a celebration of the transformative power of knowledge management in driving sustainable development, particularly in Africa”.

Mr Abugri, attributed the recognition to his contributions as the Knowledge Management Officer at FARA and “initiating and facilitating the Knowledge Management for Agricultural Development (KM4AgD) Challenge since its inception in 2020”.

Through this initiative, he stated that they have “built a vibrant community of practice that now serves as a platform for knowledge leaders and change-makers across Africa. Together, we championed the integration of knowledge management into agricultural development, inspiring similar practices in other sectors.”

Recounting Ms Elizabeth Asiimwe’s laudation speech on LinkedIn, Mr Abugri said “the KM4AgD Challenge emphasized the importance of documentation, collaboration, and staying abreast of knowledge management trends. This approach was instrumental in shaping the “Akosombo Integration Agenda,” which advocates for a Continental Knowledge Management Framework to enhance agricultural data capturing and utilization. I am deeply moved by the impact this initiative has had on the African continent’s agrifood systems and the individuals it has impacted.”

Mr Andreas Brandner, in a congratulatory message on behalf of Knowledge Management Austria and the Knowledge for Development Partnership, stated that the award seeks to “recognise your work as the Knowledge Management Officer at FARA and specifically appreciate your achievements in facilitating the Knowledge Management for Agricultural Development Challenge from 2021 to 2024 and thereby advancing KM on the African continent.”

The awards ceremony hosted by Knowledge Management Austria, in cooperation with the global Knowledge for Development Partnership (K4DP), seeks to celebrate and promote knowledge management practice across the globe.

The KM officer at FARA further called on professionals to continue “innovating, collaborating, and inspiring the next generation of knowledge practitioners” while “ensuring that our knowledge efforts are guided by wisdom, empathy, and a shared vision for a better future.

The KM Award has been given annually to Individuals and International Organisations since 2010. The previous winners in the category of KM Pioneers (Individuals) are: Ursula Schneider, Charles Savage, Stefan Güldenberg, Nico Stehr,  Klaus North, Angelika Mittelmann, Ibrahim Al Marri, Leif Edvinsson, Charles Dhewa, Kimiz Dalkir, Eric Tsui, and Vincent Ribiere.
