The Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak, has expressed disagreement with the former Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah (Rtd), over his opposition to free tuition for first-year tertiary students.
Brigadier General Nunoo-Mensah (Rtd) has argued that parents should bear the cost of tertiary education for their children.
However, in an interview with Citi News, Dr. Clement Apaak stated that the government remains committed to implementing the policy.
“The retired general is entitled to his views and opinions. But I strongly believe, as do many Ghanaian young men and women who have completed secondary school and have been unable to pursue tertiary education due to financial constraints, that they would vehemently disagree with the general’s position.
“The magnitude of the NDC’s victory in terms of parliamentary seats and the gap between our candidate, now President John Dramani Mahama, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former vice president, should be a testament to the overwhelming support we’ve received. This policy, along with many others, played a significant role in that success. We intend to proceed with the promise made by John Dramani Mahama and the NDC to support students in tertiary institutions with their fees.”
