The Institute for Energy Security (IES) has praised President John Dramani Mahama for his swift and decisive action to address a looming power generation challenge that threatened to plunge the nation back into ‘dumsor’—the frequent power outages that have plagued Ghana in the past.
On Wednesday, January 8, President Mahama established a technical team tasked with identifying and implementing solutions to the emerging power crisis.
Additionally, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah convened an emergency meeting with key stakeholders from the energy sector to discuss strategies to stabilize the situation.
The President has assured Ghanaians of his commitment to resolving the crisis promptly.
In an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Thursday, January 9, Nana Amoasi VII, Executive Director of the IES, commended President Mahama’s proactive leadership, describing it as a critical step in averting a potential energy crisis.
“President Mahama has shown leadership that in a space of two days confronted with a major challenge that could take away close to 1000 megawatts of power from generation and result in ‘dumsor.’
“He’s been able to engage, at least put together the major sector players and industry watchers to come out with a solution and this is how leadership must work.
“You don’t put it under the carpet, you confront it, you engage the right minds to support and you get your answer,” he stated.
