President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to work closely with the National House of Chiefs to address ongoing Chieftaincy disputes across the country.
In a meeting with the Executive Committee of the National House of Chiefs on January 13, the President highlighted the importance of resolving these disputes peacefully and ensuring traditional leadership contributes to national development
“I believe that there are issues that come up, especially with the selection of new Chiefs that create security crisis, and so when law and order breaks down government is called to protect the peace and so for this, we must work with you and see how we can prevent this from happenings.”
The President also acknowledged the contribution of the Chiefs and their council during his election campaign, stating that their support played a key role in his victory.
“I want to thank you all for the warm welcome you gave us during the campaign when we called on you in your palaces, and for giving us a good council on how to conduct our campaign and make sure the election is done peacefully, and I think all that contributed to the success of this election.
“The way the whole world is celebrated Ghana for a successful transition has added one more accredit in our caps as the beacon of democracy.”
