Navrongo: MP calls for calm amid controversy at St. John Bosco College

The Member of Parliament for the Navrongo Central Constituency, Simon Akibange Aworigo, has called on the Student Representative Council (SRC), alumni, stakeholders of St. John Bosco College of Education, and the Chief of the area to remain calm as efforts are made to resolve the controversy surrounding the removal of the institution’s principal, Professor Joseph Amikuzuno.

The call comes in the wake of a letter signed by Rev. Alfred Agyenta, Chairman of the College’s Governing Council, directing Professor Amikuzuno to step aside and hand over the management of the institution by December 31, 2024.

This decision has sparked dissatisfaction, leading to planned protests by students, alumni, and other concerned stakeholders in Navrongo.

Speaking to Citi News, Simon Akibange Aworigo assured the public that discussions are ongoing with the Catholic Church and other relevant authorities to find an amicable and lasting solution to the matter.

“We should all calm down. I mean, there’ll be a resolution to the matter. Nothing goes on forever. I’m sure they all are doing this with good intentions. It’s just to see the institution develop and to see our community develop. We’ll find a resolution to it where the church is satisfied and the communities also get what they want. And the students, the students in particular, are also satisfied. We’ll get there. My approach to dealing with it will be that I’ll bring all the stakeholders together, we find a central point where we can all unite and put the development of Navrongo at the centre, put the progress of our communities at the centre, and then see how we can have a win-win situation where the community wins and the church wins.

“We should be able to take out all that the issues are, deal with them, and then get to a place where the College of Education will serve the people of Navrongo, the people of Ghana, very well, turn out the people that we need so we can get the skills we need to develop our country. I know it’ll all come together at some point. There’ll be a resolution.
