The Volta Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly condemned the riot, destruction, and burning of parts of the Ho Central Constituency Party Office on Tuesday, January 21.
The incident reportedly occurred in response to claims that President John Dramani Mahama has not appointed enough ministers from the Volta Region in his ongoing ministerial appointments.
In a statement released on January 22, signed by Mawutor Agbavitor, Volta Regional Chairman, the NDC clarified that such acts of violence and lawlessness are contrary to the party’s values of democracy, discipline, and constructive dialogue.
The party emphasized that it has always stood for inclusion, fairness, and respect for all regions, and would not tolerate actions that undermine these principles.
The statement reiterated that the ongoing ministerial appointments are made in accordance with constitutional provisions, regional balance, and President Mahama’s strategic vision for national development. It condemned the resort to violence as an unacceptable way to express dissatisfaction.
The NDC praised the prompt response of the security agencies in restoring order and called for a thorough investigation into the incident. It further urged party members, supporters, and the public to remain calm and engage in constructive dialogue as the best way to resolve grievances.
The statement also expressed appreciation for the appointments made by President Mahama to the Volta Region and assured the public that their interests remain a top priority for the NDC, with continued dialogue at all levels to address legitimate concerns.
