The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has expressed its profound gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for fulfilling his promise to uncap the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) budget in the upcoming national budget.
Mahama made the announcement during the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service at the Ohene Konadu Auditorium of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Sunday, January 12.
NHIA hailed the decision as a transformative step for Ghana’s healthcare system.
According to a January 13 statement, the NHIA said removing the budgetary cap on the NHIS represents a pivotal moment in the Scheme’s history, signaling the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring sustainable funding for the NHIS.
The NHIA also highlighted that this bold move will enable the Scheme to expand coverage, settle claims promptly, and improve overall service delivery.
NHIA’s statement further pledged to collaborate with all stakeholders to maximise the benefits of this critical intervention for the collective good of Ghana.
