NPP withdraws from Media General platforms over alleged bias

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced its immediate withdrawal from all platforms operated by Media General.

The decision, detailed in a statement signed by the party’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, follows ongoing concerns about alleged bias and unprofessionalism in the media group’s political coverage.

According to the statement, the NPP has engaged with Media General since 2023 to address issues of unfair treatment, including unbalanced panelling, disruptive hosting, and repeated attacks on leading party figures.

The party claims these concerns, despite assurances of reform, have persisted.

As an example, the NPP cited an incident on a program hosted by Keminni Amanor, where a guest made inflammatory remarks about former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The party accused the host of condoning the comments by failing to intervene. Additionally, the statement criticized political shows like Key Points and Newday for regularly assembling panels skewed in favour of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), leaving NPP representatives outnumbered.

“Despite repeated assurances since 2023, the observed unprofessionalism and unfairness persist,” the statement read. The NPP added that their efforts to push for balanced and objective coverage have “fallen on pretentious deaf ears.”

The party assured its members and the public that this withdrawal would not affect its commitment to holding the government accountable. It further instructed all members of the NPP to comply with the directive until further notice.
