Parliament has approved the nomination of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah as the Minister-Designate for Defence.

This comes after the House debated and adopted the ninth report of the Appointments Committee.

Although the Appointments Committee unanimously recommended the approval of Dr. Omane Boamah as the Minister Designate for Defence, the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin in debating the report expressed concerns over the conduct of the Clerk of the Committee, accusing her of omitting some key submissions of the nominee in the report.

The Speaker, Alban Bagbin, however, condemned the attack on the clerk of the committee, urging the use of appropriate channels in addressing such concerns.

This comes after Parliament on Wednesday, approved the nomination of Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as Minister-designate for Lands and Natural Resources, along with three regional ministers-designate, following deliberations on their appointments.

The approval, granted on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, allows the nominees to officially assume their respective roles.

The newly approved regional ministers-designate are:

  • Tia Ibrahim – North East Region
  • Dr. Frank Amoakohene – Ashanti Region
  • Akamugri Atanga Donatus – Upper East Region

Their approval follows a thorough vetting process, during which members of the House assessed their qualifications, experience, and suitability for their respective positions.

The newly appointed ministers-designate are expected to spearhead development initiatives in their regions, working in collaboration with local authorities to implement government policies and drive socio-economic progress.
